This was the 2nd time that I taught a transfer-based course, this time at Marwen in the summer of 2008. I worked with older students (grades 9-12) covering the basics of digital photography, image editing, and eventually gel medium transfers onto canvas. 3 projects led to a final piece, installed for a term exhibition.
COURSE: DIGITAL TRANSFERS Day/Time: MON-FR, 130-4pm
1) GOAL
To introduce students to digital photo basics while exploring an alternative output option, that of digitally transferring images onto canvas materials.
2) RESOURCES (if needed, add information at end of document)
A – Equipment
16 digital cameras. Ideally 2 printers/printing stations. Exacto knives with cutting mattes. A light kit. Metal rulers. Projector. Stereo system of some kind.
B - Working Environment
Students will be actively shooting photos (inside and out), preparing files in photoshop, printing files onto velum paper, cutting the velum paper printouts and transferring them to canvas surfaces. I am comfortable with music being played. I also hope to show online work, so access to the internet will help much.
C – Field Trips (if any)
No field trips that will require forms. Every group outing will be within walking distance.
D – Visiting Artists (if any)
None at the moment.
