LEARNING
I've discovered the best way to describe the 29 year-old Newhouse Architecture & Design Competition is to simply list things:
1300 Project Registrations
700 Chicago Public High School Students
500 Projects
150 Prize Winners
60 Jury Day Members
50 Volunteer Architects and Designers
36 Overall Grand Prize Winners
29 Years
20 Schools
15 Students in Paid Summer Program
14 Paid Summer Internships
10 Monthly Workshops
6 Taliesin Apprenticeships
5 Design Divisions
5 Replication Divisions
2 Scholarships
1 Giant Exhibition
Working with teens, teachers, and volunteers, the competition has a 30 year history. I added a division that worked exclusively online (at Discover Design), two divisions that worked with landscape architecture for the first time in the history of the competition, and created a division asking teens to create a community architectural tour, with the winner presenting the tour at our awards ceremony (in front of hundreds of people!).
